When choosing a BJJ academy, there are many different factors that should go into the decision.
You’ll consider the lineage of the instructor(s), the facility itself, the classes offered, and the school’s affiliation among other things.

Professor Everilton "Soneca" Silva
4th Degree Black Belt, BJJ
He began training Judo at the age of five, and at 14 discovered BJJ and never stopped training. While in Brazil, he trained through earning his brown belt under Professor Nilton Marquez. He won 1st place in the Brazilian Nationals, was the 5-time Minas Gerais State Champion, and placed in over 40 small tournaments as a professional Jiu Jitsu fighter in Brazil.
In 2003 he moved to the United States and received his black belt from Carlos Terinha in 2005. In the US, his achievements include countless wins at tournaments and super-fights with organizations like the IBJJF, Fight2Win, NAGA, Grapplers Quest, and in many other local and regional competitions. He has also fought seven professional MMA fights.
As one of the founders of Fenix BJJ, he helped the team grow to five gyms across Massachusetts. After parting ways with Fenix, he joined forces with Andre “Dedeco” Almeida and Alexey Cruz by joining New England United and continuing his own training under Dedeco.
As a professor, Soneca’s goal is to help his students find what they are looking for in both BJJ and in life. The best example of this is that every black belt who trains under Soneca has developed a unique style and their own way of seeing BJJ. He strives to provide his students with an environment where they can train Jiu Jitsu while also changing their lives for the better on their way to black belt and beyond.
